Why the character of Sharpe is so easy to love:
1) He‘s handsome, brave and a great warrior.
2) He‘s loyal to his men and will do anything to protect them.
3) He leads by example. He doesn't ask any more from his men than what he can do himself.
4) He has worked hard for his status; nothing was given to him.
5) He had everything against him yet made it through. He beat the odds.
6) He always speaks his mind, also to superior officers.
7) He knows what he wants and he goes for it.
8) He has a strong sense of honour and he lives by that code. Yet, he’s also a rogue.
9) He has a mind of his own and doesn’t blindly follow orders. If an order goes against his conscience, he refuses to carry it out no matter what punishment he may face.
10) He has a Yorkshire(Sean Bean's own) accent and a colourful lower class language which is very fitting his character.
11) He’s a man caught between two worlds; he’s an officer yet not by birth, which means he doesn’t really belong in the officer’s mess. He came from the ranks, he was a common soldier yet after he’s made an Officer he’s not one of them anymore.
